Acne Treatment
Acne and problem skin
There are 4 main causes of acne:
- Hormonal imbalance
- Diet
- Stress
- Genetic
Adult acne is becoming more and more prevalent, which can be caused by a combination of the above factors. With all acne one should start to look within the body’s system. Often contributory factors are constipation, a lack of drinking water and not eating enough greens. The first step in dealing with acne is to have your diet and lifestyle assessed.
There are many different types of acne. For example, pustule, cystic, vulgaris, adult. Each is an ‘inflammatory’ condition and presents itself on the skin usually as red, angry bumps, sometimes with pustules (with red or white tops) or as papules (big bumps) either under or on the skin. The acne itself is a symptom of an underlying root cause. So what sort of action can be taken to help prevent acne?
Supplements and skin care
Spots can be made worse by the wrong skin care. Take a holistic approach to your skin care regime but use medical grade products. It is very important you do not use cheap supermarket products that contain chemicals and parabens which can actually irritate acne prone skin.
Keeping spots away is better than dealing with constant breakouts, so look for a management system that keeps pores clear and bacteria at bay. The Cosmedix Acne Kit contains all the right ingredients such as pore clearing retinol, natural acids and anti-bacterial tea tree. You can also try Cosmedix Clarity Supplements, Balance and Complete Greens to make your system more alkaline reducing these symptoms of acne.
A good facial cleanser such as CosMedix Purity Clean or Anti-Bacterial Enzyme Cleanser can cleanse your skin without stripping away necessary oils or moisture. Use a good hydrating serum such as B5 Hydrating Gel to moisturise your skin. At EF MEDISPA we have researched and offer only the most effective skin care which is gentle and kind to skin at the same time. The best product ranges for acne include: CosMedix Dermaquest, SkinCeuticals. It is also best to use mineral make-up as opposed to regular make-up, Youngblood mineral make-up is an excellent range and is packed with vitamins and minerals that are kind to your skin allowing it to breathe.
Acne treatments
EF MediSpa’s Aestheticians not only treat facial acne but are experts in treating acne on your back and chest. Following your consultation with our therapist or doctor, first the cause and grade of acne is established. You may then be prescribed a course of acne facials or IPL which targets the sebaceous glands reducing sebum levels and clearing the skin whilst promoting healing and collagen production at the same time. This treatment is excellent for clearing up active acne as well as acne scarring. Depending on the type of acne you have you may also be put under a healing blue light which helps to clear bacteria on the skin.
Check your hormones
Hormonal fluctuations can be to blame for monthly break outs, but it’s always worth looking at poor diet and stress as well. At EF MEDISPA you can consult with our hormonal specialist, homeopath or nutritionist to help get your hormones and inner health back on track.
Sun!
15 minutes of sun is good for acne prone skin but ultimately a non-oily sunblock is essential for your skin. On-The-Go mineral powder is excellent for acne prone oily skin.
