Interview with Dr Katerina Charakida
Dr Katerina Charakida performs VASER Liposelection and VASER Hi Def at EF MEDISPA London
When did you first come across VASER Hi Def, and what appealed to you about the procedure?
I was visiting the US when I was first introduced to VASER and the fact that you can perform lipo in a much less traumatic way really impressed me. VASER is not about only removing fat; it’s also about sculpting the body in a way that can give you more of an athletic and healthy looking appearance. VASER works particularly well if you want to look like you’ve spent hours in the gym, giving you a lean, healthy body image.
What advantages does Hi Def hold over standard VASER Liposelection? How does it compare to other body sculpting procedures?
You can do ‘Hi Def’ on any part of the body and it is especially popular on the arms, legs and abdomen. With VASER Hi Def you can treat the superficial fat and create contouring where the muscles should be. The equipment I use is very versatile too, The VASER Hi Def canula is much thinner so there is barely any scarring, it is longer so you can reach into areas more easily and it is flexible, meaning that I have much more freedom to create a create sculpture and muscle definition making for a fantastic result!
I have seen a lot of amazing before and after images of Hi Def performed on men – is it also used on women? Which areas is it most popular for?
VASER Hi Def is very popular with the ladies too! I find I am having great results creating abdominal definition, dimples in the lower backs and inner and outer thigh definition. With the ladies I can create great definition that appears very healthy and feminine.
How does the procedure work?
By removing but also leaving untouched certain deposits of fat I am able to artistically contour the human form; by recreating the curves and dips that define the human muscles. This way you can look athletic and healthy.
What sort of downtime would you expect post-procedure? Is it a good pre-party fix, or more of a long term solution?
There is minimum downtime and the results are long lasting. Generally you can expect to resume activities after a few days and depending to the extent of your surgery between three days and a week. You can start to see your first results after a month although your final form will appear after 6 months.
How long do the results last? Do you need to follow a specific diet and exercise plan to maintain the effects?
Having this surgery is a good starting point to leading a healthier lifestyle. Having VASER generally gives patients the motivation to lead healthier lifestyles in order to maintain their results. At EF MEDISPA we generally recommend that our patients to follow a healthier diet and exercise regularly. It is amazing how with just minor efforts you can enjoy your results for many years to come.
Is it a painful procedure?
It is generally considered less invasive and as a result much less painful than traditional liposuction. You can expect to feel bruised for the first few days but this pain is generally well tolerated.
What are the main reasons patients give for wanting the procedure?
Some people want to look healthy and exercised without spending hours in the gym, but also many people feel that although they have been exercising regularly they are not able to get the results they were expecting through the gym.
Who is an ideal candidate for VASER Hi Def?
The ideal candidates for VASER are male and females patients with a generally good fitness level. However the best way to find out if VASER is right for you is to come in for a consultation where you needs and suitability can be assessed.
Do you see results after just one treatment or is a course of treatments best? If the results fade with time, can you come back for a top-up?
Only one treatment is required, but you may like it so much that you may wish to have other areas done too!
