What Causes Excessive Sweating?

Excessive sweating, also known as Hyperhidrosis, is a common yet often embarrassing condition that causes the body to over-produce sweat. It is very difficult to define what is normal, but most people that suffer from excessive armpit sweating notice that they lose more sweat than the average person, even when they are relaxed, under normal temperature, not exercising or doing any manual labour – when there is no reason for the body to be trying to cool itself down.

Although high temperature, stress, anxiety and exercising will naturally trigger the sweat glands, people that suffer from hyperhidrosis often sweat regardless of all those factors. Reasons for excessive sweating also include certain medications, but it may also occur for no apparent reason at all. There are two groups that people who suffer from excessive sweating can be categorised into.

Primary focal hyperhidrosis

This is the category that most people who suffer from excessive sweating will fall into. These people are generally perfectly healthy, with no discernible reasons for excessive sweating. will usually have started to notice their excessive sweating early on and have no apparent reasons for excessive sweating at the time, such as exercise or stress. It usually affects both sides of the body, namely the hands, feet, face, head and excessive armpit sweating. People with primary focal hyperhidrosis rarely sweat when they’re asleep.

Secondary general hyperhidrosis

What causes excessive sweating in this group is an underlying medical condition, such as some neurological, hormonal or metabolic conditions. It can also be a common side effect of some medications, but you should never stop taking medications without consulting your doctor. This form tends to have an onset much later in life. This type of excessive sweating occurs over a larger area the body and will be most common at night.

How to treat excessive armpit sweating

Although some people find that excessive sweating reduces as they age, it will rarely completely stop and there’s no ‘cure’. Therefore, excessive sweating treatments usually focus on reducing the symptoms, especially when there is no apparent underlying cause.

No matter if you know the reasons for excessive sweating or not, we understand that it is frustrating. EF MEDISPA is offering Hyperhidrosis Injectables to treat excessive armpit sweating. A minimally invasive, long-lasting solution to tackle with this embarrassing condition.*

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I do anything to avoid excessive sweating?

You can’t do anything to completely cure hyperhidrosis, but there are some measures that can be taken to reduce the symptoms and their effects on your lifestyle. This means understanding what causes excessive sweating and avoid common causes. These include using emollient washes that don’t strip the natural oils from your skin; using antiperspirants that contain aluminium chloride, or stronger antiperspirants prescribed by a doctor; wearing breathable, loose fitting clothes and breathable shoes; using absorbent underarm pads or specialist clothing with underarm sweat protection; and avoiding spicy foods, caffeine and alcohol which can be reasons for excessive sweating.

What excessive sweating treatments are available?

There are strong antiperspirant products that you can buy over the counter, however, this is not always an effective solution. Furthermore, for people with severe case of hyperhidrosis Surgeons can suggest a specialised surgery to control the function of sweat glands. However, here at EF MEDISPA we offer a less invasive, non-surgical option to tackle excess sweat, Hyperhidrosis Injectables.

What are Hyperhidrosis Injectables?

Hyperhidrosis Injectables are of the same substance used on Anti-wrinkle Injectibles. They work by blocking the signal the brain sends to the sweat glands. As a result, sweat will never be produced from the treated areas.

After suffering with severe digestive problems for many years, I decided to book a course of hydrotherapy treats at EE Medispa in Chelsea. Having never had this treatment I was quite nervous but the staff and my practitioner Victoria made the whole process very comfortable. I have now been seeing Victoria for regular sessions for about two months and I can honestly say it has changed my life. I have completely changed my diet and the process of detoxification has helped me eliminate everything that was causing me to feel so unwell for many years. I would highly recommend this service to anyone with digestive issues. I am now on my second course of treatments and continue to see great results. This is one of the best investments in my health I have ever made. Thank you so much Victoria! : )

The Zone Out treatment was fantastic, it relaxed my mind and body, clearing my head of all that “London” stress … Victoria, the Hydrotherapist was incredibly knowledgeable and informative; above all making me feel at ease …I can’t wait to come back again!

Zone Out Colonic Hydrotherapy

I had Zone Out Colonic Hydrotherapy. I was immediately at ease with Victoria, she was both friendly and professional. I wasn't sure what to expect with this treatment but within a few minutes of it starting I was already in an extremely relaxed, almost meditative state. It was like being transported into a zone between asleep and awake where you are totally at calm - thoughts can enter your mind but you just let them float away. Afterwards I felt as though I had been asleep for a hours, I was relaxed but also rejuvenated. I would highly recommend trying this!

Victoria floats in, complete with bangles and maxiskirt, far from the overall-clad dominatrix I had envisaged. The consultation and treatment explanation are extensive but reassuring and by the time I am gowned up on the bed, I’d honestly trust her with my life. The process is much more civilised than you’d think. Within four sessions, my eyes are brighter, my skin is clearer and I have the energy of a five-year old on a sugar high. The difference is astounding.”
