In this skin series blog we’re looking at all the ways you can prevent and restore dry skin during the cold winter months. Dry skin is common concern during winter as the humidity levels drop, which causes your skin to lose water quicker, resulting in dry and tight skin. In this blog, we discuss all the ways you can keep your skin super hydrated.

AvocadoGain moisture through your diet

It may sound obvious, but not drinking enough water can often cause dry skin. What we put inside our body shows on the outside, and if you’re not consuming as much water as you need then your skin will show it. Avocados are another key ingredient to add into your diet if you suffer from dry skin. They are high in Vitamin C and E as well as monounsaturated fats, which help to lock in skins moisture.

Ensure you’re using the correct skincare

A well-organised skincare routine can really help your skin with different concerns. By incorporating products that have been specifically formulated for dry skin, which include ingredients like hyaluronic acid, you can alter your skincare routine during the colder months to help combat dry skin. Our favourite products for dry skin include Biologique Recherche Crème VIP O₂, this cream helps to not only hydrate the skin, but will also protect against pollution and prevent signs of ageing. CosMedix Rescue+ Balm, a protective balm which will provide instant relief to cracked, chapped skin. Lastly, another great product to mention is the SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Serum which works to replenish the skins moisture, leaving it feeling smoother.

Rehydrate with a facial treatmentWoman after facial treatment

There is only so much you can do with skincare, so if your skin is feeling really dry then there are plenty of great hydrating facial treatments that will help. These include our Jet Facial, a hydradermabrasion facial which uses a jet of pressured air and saline water to exfoliate the skin. This is then followed by the application of hyaluronic acid and vitamins to replenish the skins moisture. Mesotherapy is also an ideal treatment for dehydrated skin, as it uses microneedling to directly deliver vitamins and minerals to the skin. This helps to revitalise the skin and can also have anti-ageing benefits.

Turn your shower down

It may be tempting when it’s cold outside to get into a steaming hot bath or shower, but it can actually be extremely damaging for your skin. Boiling hot water can strip the skin of its natural oils which in turn causes skin to become dry and flaky. Ways to prevent this from happening is by bathing in lukewarm water, or if you can’t bear the thought of a shower that isn’t super-hot, then try to spend no more than 10 minutes in there. It is also very important to make sure that you moisturise afterwards. One of our favourite body creams is DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D, this lovely cream also has anti-ageing properties that helps to keep the skin firm and tight.
