Cold that fat cells cannot survive
Fat freezing, or cryolipolysis, works because fat cells freeze at a higher temperature than the skin, nerves and muscle around them. Clatuu draws the area into a cooling cup and holds it at a controlled low temperature. The fat cells crystallise and are cleared away by your body over the following weeks. Everything else is left alone.
Cooling from every side

The Treatment, 45 to 60 minutes
A protective gel pad goes on, then the cup draws the area in and starts to cool. Expect a firm pull and a cold pinch for the first five minutes, then the area goes numb and you can read, work or doze. Two areas are treated at once.
Massage, Then Results
As the cup comes off your practitioner massages the area to help the crystallised cells break down. You leave straight away. The area may feel numb or tender for a few days, and the change shows from three weeks, at its best by two to three months.

Common questions
Does fat freezing hurt?
For the first five minutes or so you feel a firm pull from the suction and a cold, pinching sensation. Then the area goes numb and most clients settle in with a book, a laptop or a nap. The massage at the end can feel tender, and the area may stay numb or a little sore for a few days afterwards.
How much does a course cost?
Every plan is personal to the areas you want to treat, the size of each one and the number of sessions you need, so we talk you through your options and your investment at your complimentary consultation rather than online. As a new client, your first course comes with 35% off, and there is no obligation to go ahead.
When will I see results, and how much fat goes?
Your body clears the treated cells gradually, so the change is natural-looking rather than sudden. Some clients notice a difference from three weeks; the full result shows at two to three months. Published cryolipolysis studies typically report a reduction of around 20 to 25% in the fat layer of a treated area per session, which is why a course is often recommended for a bigger change.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the volume of fat and the result you want. Many clients are happy after one session on an area; others plan two or three, spaced at least four weeks apart so the body has cleared the previous round. Your Treatment Coordinator maps this with you at consultation.
Is it safe, and who should not have it?
Clatuu Alpha is a medical device made by Classys, and the cooling targets fat cells while leaving the skin, nerves and muscle unaffected. It is not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have a hernia at the treatment site, or if you have a condition that reacts to cold such as cold urticaria, cryoglobulinaemia or Raynaud’s. We take a full medical history at consultation and only proceed if it is safe and appropriate for you.
Is this the same as CoolSculpting?
Both use cryolipolysis, controlled cooling that destroys fat cells. The difference is in the applicator. Clatuu Alpha uses cup applicators that cool the whole fold from every side and can run two cups at once, whereas traditional two-plate devices cool from either side of the fold. CoolSculpting is a trademark of a different manufacturer; we chose Clatuu for the surround cooling and the twin applicators, and your practitioner is happy to talk through the differences.
Is the fat gone for good?
The fat cells that are treated are cleared by your body and do not come back, and adults do not grow new fat cells in the area. The cells that remain can still enlarge with weight gain, so the result lasts best with a steady weight. Fat freezing is for stubborn pockets rather than overall weight loss, and we will say so honestly if it is not the right tool for what you have in mind.
