Sleeping on your sideThere are lifestyle choices we know can damage our skin, like smoking and sun exposure. However, are you aware of all the other habits that could be damaging your skin? In this blog, we discuss 5 different elements that may be affecting your skin that you might not be aware of!

Sleeping on your side or stomach

Pressing your face into your pillow when you’re sleeping on your side or your stomach can cause permanent lines on your face. We always advise clients to try and sleep on their back. However, another thing to bear in mind is that your pillowcase also accumulates dead skin cells and bacteria, so by sleeping your back you’re not letting your skin encounter these. For this reason, we also advise changing your pillow case weekly.

Staring at your computer screen for too long

We all know that certain facial movements cause lines and wrinkles - there’s a reason the line in between your eyebrows is called a frown line! So, when you sit a desk all day long staring at a computer, you may not realise but for an extended period of time you will often be squinting. This can cause premature wrinkles around the eyes. We recommend ensuring you’re taking regular breaks from staring at your screens, and if you are concerned about your crow’s feet, then why not come in and talk to us about our Anti-Wrinkle Injectables?

Our mobile phonesWoman using mobile phone

How often you hold your phone to you face whilst you’re on a call? If you do this, then you really should also be thinking about how often you clean your phone screen. Our phones are a minefield for bacteria and dirt. Every time you take a call and press your phone against your face, you’re letting all the bacteria and dirt come into contact with your skin. We advise giving your phone screen a wipe once a day with an anti-bacterial wipe to keep germs at bay!

Piping hot baths & showers

You will often be told that you shouldn’t wash your face with hot water as it’s not good for the skin, and can cause it to become irritated. However, do you pay attention to this advice when it comes to the skin on your body? As lovely as it may be to have a piping hot shower or bath, it can be extremely damaging to your skin. Extremely hot water can cause the skin to become dehydrated, stripping it of the natural oils it produces.

Drying your faceDrying off

After washing your face, how often do you dry it with a towel? Most of us will answer always. However, have you thought about how you’re using the towel to dry your face? If you’re rubbing the towel up and down your face, then you could actually be damaging the skin. The pressure and friction of rubbing can cause your skin to become sensitive and dry. We always recommend using a dabbing/blotting action when drying your face to avoid damaging the skin.
